Day 85 – Tuesday Into the Everglades

Dear Readers, we are close to the completion of this journey. Today’s mileage was fifty-nine total. Our Hero once again sees plenty of sugarcane fields in this area of Florida. This is at the beginning of the growing cycle:

The Miami Canal:

This canal is man-made, and its purpose is to drain water from the Everglades for agriculture and development. It actually flows through the Everglades. It begins at Lake Okeechobee (its source) and flows into the Miami River, which runs through Miami. Lake Okeechobee is the largest lake in Florida.

The Everglades are approximately two hours from Miami. Art believes he is currently in the Everglades on the route he is following, so this gives you an idea of his current location. This is a photo of the Everglades:

  1. Well I’ve followed Art all the way from the Pacific to the Everglades ( watch out for gators). Is he headed to the Keys or is Miami the final goal? What an amazing adventure for all 4 of y’all (plus dogs). Thank you Kerri for the wonderful writing and Art for the pictures of the USA.

      1. Y’all should do an ad when you get to Orlando. “Art, after riding a bicycle clear across America, what are you going to do now?” WE’RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!!
