Day 81 – A Day Off and Day 82 – Country Roads and a Wildlife Area

Day 81 was Thursday, and Our Hero took the day off, as usual. However, they took an Everglades airboat tour on a short riding day, Day 83! I accidentally thought it was Day 81, so here are the details. I will have a short post for Day 83 from the ride. They went here:

Art said he did not see a cat or a mouse. Dad joke…I’m not sure why these photos are coming out so small, but if I enlarge them, it damages the pixels.

They did see a couple of alligators! The first one was a female on the premises of the airboat company, and is seven to eight feet long:

Not huge, but I’m sure still deadly. And gator number two:

They also saw a 24-year-old African tortoise on the premises:

Plus two in the wild:

And an egret:

What a fun trip!

Day 82 brings us to Osceola, Florida. Art rode sixty-four miles this lovely Friday! The area was flat, making for a comfortable ride.

Most bike trails are fifteen mph, but this one was twenty mph. I told him to go for it! He did not respond, so I’m thinking he took his time. No rush at this point. He’s so close to the end, he can take it easy.

Lots of country roads were being traveled on Friday that looked like this:

At the start of his ride, it was about forty-eight degrees and rose to around sixty degrees Fahrenheit.

He found the Van Fleet Trail to ride. The sun coming into the photo is gorgeous:

This warning sign was posted – Wild hogs, Turkeys, and Tortoises:

You can barely see them, but there are three deer toward the end of where you can see the road. I couldn’t come in closer without pixel issues:

Our Hero said he had an e-bike pacer. 🙂 Alas, that guy was too slow, so he quickly passed him:

This was a wildlife viewing area:

An orange grove! Who would have thought? LOL:

This trail took Art into the Richloam Wildlife area, where he saw a number of these soaring birds. He wasn’t close enough to tell if there were Turkey Vultures or Eagles:

He saw around ten total:

Our Hero also saw about thirty wild turkeys:

A nice bench along the trail:

The oddest part of his day? Cactus. In Florida:

A few more cactus plants. Usually found in dry climates, making them unusual in Florida:

Of course, the must-see attraction that every long-riding biker likes to see is bathrooms. They were at the beginning, the middle (in this photo), and the end of the almost thirty-mile trail:

That’s Art’s bike resting against a fountain.
