Dear Readers, I apologize for the delay in posting. Jay and I have been on the road for four days, driving from Utah to Pennsylvania, where we are visiting the younger of my two older brothers. We arrived tonight (Wednesday) and will take tomorrow to rest. It’s been a long trip! But let’s catch up on the Bike Ride!!!
Our Hero continues his journey across the country and is still in Georgia. He managed sixty-two miles on this day and gained in elevation, climbing hills of 2,659 feet.
The change is significant compared to living in the West, where water is always in short supply. These days, Art passes creeks (a river in size comparison to those in the West), rivers, and lakes all the time! Like this one, Chattahoochee River:

This river is famous because, for centuries, it provided what was possibly the most important route connecting the Gulf of Mexico (America) to the rest of the nation. Native American tribes used it for travel and trade, and both white explorers and settlers used it for entry into the country’s interior.
Our Hero also passed Potato Creek. I asked if it had any potatoes in it, and Art said it didn’t appear to. It’s anyone’s guess as to how it got its name:

He passed Fish Creek, too, saying it was very similar to Potato Creek. His dad joke – It didn’t have any more fish in it than Potato Creek had potatoes. LOL.
Yellowjacket Creek offers hiking trails, swimming, and a boat launch, so it is a common recreation location for the area:

And since it appears to be all about water in Georgia, we have Beech Creek, too:

And finally, an odd surprise along his ride. This appears to be bamboo:

It is a native species and referred to as River Cane. Apparently, at one time, there were swathes as large as 17,000 acres of it in the 1800s. It helps to prevent erosion, and some wildlife species use it as habitat. It was used by Native Americans in basket weaving and for blow darts. Pretty interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything about it before.
Next Up: Day 72 – Sunday, Day of Rest and Day 73 – Monday Riding

Impressive! Keep up the good work!
