Dear Readers, I need to make a correction on my post from Art’s ride through Kentucky – Day 62 – Was Something in the Water.
I had posted Art’s photo of Welcome to Hopkinsville, Kentucky, which I mistakenly said advertised itself as a “Christian County.” Well, that was just the county name, the name Christian. Here’s our Kind Reader, Ron’s correction to me:
“We got a good laugh at your mention of Hopkinsville, KY advertise as being a Christian county. Kentuckians know Hopkinsville as the home of the State’s mental hospital IN Christian county. There are quite a few pejorative names not worth mentioning here. 3 states in as many days is really amazing! The family reunion must have really given Art a boost! Man, he’s only one state away from Florida! What a grand accomplishment! My wife and i have really enjoyed your blog and following Art’s journey.”
I assure you, when I read the correction, I was cracking up! Ron, thank you so much for both the correction and the laugh at myself!! It can be tough for Art and I to communicate well on this trip since we are long distance.
Our Hero has been in Tennessee. He made it sixty miles today! And rode along the Purple Heart Trail. My father was in the Army for twenty-three years. He was in the Korean War and had three tours in Vietnam. On his last trip, he was shot in the leg, which bothered him for the rest of his life. He was awarded The Purple Heart. Before he passed, he gave it to one of my brothers.

One of Art and Jay’s loves is playing disc golf. If you look closely, you can see metal baskets, that the players attempt to reach with each throw. It was on the grounds of an elementary school. Maybe that’s why they don’t seem very far apart!:

Then the hills appeared. Not much for Our Hero to ride on as far as the shoulder goes, but also, this meant he was going to be working hard on this ride.

There is a reason Tennessee is referred to as Hill Country. He wondered if there were tears from climbing all these hills:

Art took this photo and said there were many dilapidated buildings all along Highway 42:

The hills continue, often for two or more miles. One was at least four mile uphill:

He stated these “moderate hills are kicking my butt!” Another hill here:

Hill number three. Look how long it goes on. Plus, what a beautiful photo with the sun shining down on him:

But through it all, Our Hero kept his smile on:

Overall, he climbed one thousand feet in three miles but kept his speed at an average of 4.4 mph! That’s impressive.
Next Up – Tuesday – Water Everywhere!
