Day 29 – Our Hero Sees History

That’s right. Art’s travels bring him to historical places to visit in Montana. That and the beauty of this state are the two things that should pull you here. There is a fascinating history of mining, mountain men, Native American Tribes (this area was home to Blackfoot, Crow, Northern Cheyenne, and Chippewa tribes, and still has reservations in it), and abundant wildlife. And the sky is often blue. It’s beautiful.

For Art, Day 29, yesterday, started off like this:

Are those clouds telling us something about the future? Stay tuned to find out. In the meantime, Our Hero began seeing lots of trees again:

And various rock formations, without much of a shoulder to ride on:

At a distance, those look like standing pillars of rock. But then the rock changes to this:

These rocks look like slate:

Here we have a river running by his side:

And some more. The plains don’t look all that flat in Montana:

This is a gorgeous photo of the sky filled with swirling clouds:

My eye drew to the wind power, aka bird killers, but if you can ignore those, the landscape is lovely:

Now on to some of the historic things he found along the way. As the Nez Perce Tribe, led by Chief Joseph, attempted to evade capture, which would force them onto reservations, they traveled through Montana toward Canada. This sign stands as a monument to that terrible battle and time:

Many of his tribe perished in this march toward freedom. Sadly, the First Nations people of Canada would not have a different result. The museum with information about this is in Harlowton, Montana. During a discussion with a farmer along his riding route, Art found out the locals simply call it Harlow.

The Great Cattle Drive took place through Montana and is celebrated by murals and a museum:

Outside the museum is this sign with information about it:

And here is the outside of the museum:

I love the sculpture in front!

What an amazing state this is! And we are so proud of what Art is doing here. It’s incredible the commitment this journey requires, and he has lived up to it every step of the way.

Next Up: Were those clouds foreboding? You’ll have to read up tomorrow and find out.
