Day 16 – Wet and Rainy

It was a dark and stormy…Wait, no. It was a wet and rainy day for our hero. He was soaked to the bone. But he carried on, unafraid of a little bit of water from the sky. On this day, he would be traveling into the next state, Montana. He started here:

Almost ready:

And there he goes:

And a little further:

This was the day he rode along Interstate 90. We usually say a prayer before he heads out, but this day was extra special because he was riding the highway in rainy weather. At least until he reached Montana, which prohibits bikes on the interstates or highways.

Even in the rain, Art found the beauty in his surroundings. A river he crossed:

And this gorgeous sight. Just look at that river and the smile on his face. Of course, the rain had let up, but not for long:

Did our hero call us to pick him up? No! He kept going with determination. Here is a view of the highway and the small amount of shoulder he had to ride on:

Now, especially for Tim Fyock, some Points of Interest! This is Elmer’s Fountain near Mullan, Idaho. You can see someone lifting their child to drink from it. There is also a sign for Gold Creek Mine.

Lookout Pass, where Idaho meets Montana. Idaho has quite a bit of mining history:

And another photo noting Lookout Pass and the bike paths Art planned to take

We passed this signage on the highway on the eighteenth, and Art kindly and unknowingly took that photo for us, since we were going too fast for me to grab one. Notice how wet the roads are:

The small town of Wallace, Idaho, had some sort of market/celebration/festival going on:

Tim, another point of interest in Idaho:

And another with an interesting story of an avalanche that took place on February 10, 1903:

Tragically, there has been some vandalism to this historical sign:

And here’s another Point of Interest, Tim:

Big Creek, Idaho, has a Sunshine Miners Memorial Historical Site:

And today, August 18th, we (the RVers) have traveled into Montana!

Next Up: A quick word about a Sunday off, as always, and Art’s ride today, the 18th.
