We will be taking Sundays off from the ride. That’s so we can attend church wherever we happen to be. It’s good for the soul, and the truth is, this bicycle ride across country can be dangerous. We want to feel prepared. In fact, we say a prayer every day when I drop them off before they head down the road. You may remember reading that Jay’s older brother, John, was killed while on his bicycle by an inattentive driver. Art and Jay sometimes ride on highways, though they take trails whenever possible. We take Sunday to rejuvenate and build our spirits up for the coming rides. We found a nice ward to attend in Port Angeles and then walked around the waterfront. It is gorgeous there! On the way to church, we saw some deer right in town:

I know. It’s a terrible picture. I was driving and had to take it out the front window and through some bug guts – LOL. Sometimes you lose.
Then we hit the waterfront, wharf, or whatever you’d like to call it:

Those are some big ships out there!

The dock (of the bay?).

A pipe that had been cut off and bent to prevent anything from coming into the water. Was it once toxic? I don’t know.

I liked the view of the dock through the grass. It’d be nice if I had a good camera.

A large cargo ship out on the water:

There were many of these benches, so you could sit and watch the ships coming in and out. Lots of people were walking dogs and playing with kids there. We met a nice young guy with a rescued Pitbull that had been used as a bait dog. She was the most precious dog, so sweet and friendly. We pet her for a while and talked. I told him Pitbulls were once used as nanny dogs because they are so good with children, and generally a gentle and loving breed. Not at all what the dog fighters turn their dogs into or what many people think they are. He said that when kids were around, she would sit quietly and let them pet and hug her. If you know me, you know I am a dog lover. I enjoyed meeting them.
And then we saw it! Yes, a mermaid rock! What, you ask? Well, just take a close look at this rock:

See the colorful, glistening scales all over it? Yep, that’s right. Mermaid scales are the only scales that come like that. Don’t believe me? Where is your sense of imagination?
I liked this picture of the dock going into the sea:

There is also a manmade island in this picture. It was built to help ease the waves. I’m not sure if those are homes or buildings on it. I’m assuming buildings:

It was time to head home to these little hoodlums, souls rejuvenated:

Next Up: Day Four!
