If you’ve been following this blog from the beginning, you’ll know the answer to that question is YES! There is a bike ride across the country that my husband, Jay, and his best friend, Art, are taking. We leave Colorado Springs on July 26th and head to Grand Junction, then on toward Washington State after a short stop in Utah for a couple of doctor appointments.
Here’s the deal: the guys need to build up to around sixty miles per day. Yes, sixty! Never fear, on Monday, they rode forty-seven miles! On Wednesday, they did the same! That’s pretty good, but only leaves us with around two weeks for them to hit the sixty miles in a day at an average speed of ten miles per hour. Art can do that as he’s been riding consistently. Unfortunately, Jay has not, so he’s building up from almost scratch. I believe Art has also averaged twelve miles per hour, too. Pretty impressive. But Jay is just under ten miles per hour at forty-seven miles, so I’m sure he will hit that soon.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t see myself ever making those kinds of records! Keep your fingers crossed and send up some prayers if you do that in life. They could use it!
AND – I’m having some heart surgery here in Colorado Springs on July 21st. It’s to stop the constant atrial fibrillation I’ve been having since we ventured up to Pikes Peak a couple of months ago. I’m looking forward to it, as three writer friends I know have had the same surgery with permanent success. One lives in Australia, one in Canada, and one here in the US. I would love to have this heart issue gone. There are lots of details and percentages involved, but I won’t go into that. Just some prayers and good wishes will be greatly appreciated.
