Our next trip was from Colorado to Louisiana for my nephew’s wedding. Let me tell you, it was exhausting! One night here, another night there. Driving, driving, driving. It was a rough trip for a couple of oldies (but goodies – wink). We only had a few days to make it there. Our child flew out from Colorado on December 31st and we headed out that same morning. And here began a new level of learning. Mostly, we learned that we needed to replace the lithium battery our RV came with. It’s okay as it is under warranty. Although our Montana is a 2023, it was new off the lot. In fact, it was the last 2023 they had. But it was the one I wanted and as it was 2024 when we purchased it, we got a great deal. This explains why we bought the RV much earlier than the truck to haul it. We didn’t want to miss the opportunity.
On our first night, we drove many miles and made it to Wichita Falls, Texas. The city has a nice park providing electric and water hookups but no sewer. We stayed the night there and slept well. The toughest part was getting in after dark and Jay hooking us up in the dark. But their dump station, for the sewer, was located as you exited and the highway was close. We were on our way to our next stop early.
Night two was spent in a rest area with our slides open so we could comfortably sleep in the RV. Rest areas do not provide hookups of any kind. That was the morning we discovered we needed to replace our battery. We should have had enough power to pull the slides in the next morning, despite having had to run the heater all night in freezing Texas. But we couldn’t. The battery was dead. We had to call a tech to jump it. Keep in mind that our truck was still hooked up to the 5th wheel. We didn’t put the jacks down or anything else aside from letting the slides out. This meant $300 later, we could finally be on our way. A bit later than we intended, of course. Techs take a while to arrive.
And what the heck is with all the cold! We thought heading south would bring us into warmer weather. Boy, were we ever wrong. Today, February 26th, in Louisiana, we are finally in warm weather. Not too warm, of course. That’s not my cup of tea, so to speak.
Night three we arrived in The Woodlands, a suburb of Houston, Texas. It was a beautiful but very tight RV park. The sites are close together and backing is a bit of a chore. I’ll have another story about this location later that did not go well for us and has since caused additional issues from a different stay there.
On night four, we finally arrived at a beautiful State Park in Louisiana, across the Causeway from New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans was the location of my nephew’s wedding. The trip there was gorgeous and in areas I had not seen before.
Here are some photos from on our way to Louisiana – the first time:

We were on I-10 crossing Lake Pontchartrain. Keep in mind, we’re on the highway and I couldn’t get out to take any of these pictures while hauling a 5th wheel behind us. Next, we were crossing the Atchafalaya River:

Next up, the Mighty Mississippi River:

The bridge is also over the Mississippi River:

There are lots of boats and barges on the Mississippi River:

And then we arrived in Louisiana for my nephew’s wedding. This is Bezhan and his beautiful wife, Carly (this is one of their engagement pictures):

I hope my next post makes you smile!
